I wrote a piece a little while ago about how 2025 was the year of AI assistants and 2026 is turning out to be the year of agents. The more I build with them, the more I believe the distinction is real — an assistant answers, an agent acts.
We've been shipping agent-powered systems at MotekLab and the part that surprised me most is how fast the shift happened. One client went from 'can you summarize this doc' to a full multi-step workflow that books, writes, and deploys without hand-holding.
Curious what everyone else is seeing in production. Are agents actually replacing workflows for you, or is it still mostly demos and toy examples? Happy to swap notes on architecture patterns too.
I wrote this up in more detail in the full blog post — The Rise of AI Agents: From Chatbots to Autonomous Systems — with the deeper context, data, and code. Give it a read if you're curious.
