I wrote a piece on quantum's practical applications this year and tried to stay grounded about it. We're not replacing classical computing, but specific problems (optimization, chemistry, some crypto) are genuinely interesting.
What I find most interesting is the tooling — the quantum simulators you can run today on a laptop are far enough along that you can actually learn the programming model without hardware access.
Not looking for wild predictions, but does anyone here have hands-on experience with Qiskit or similar? Curious what's actually usable.
I wrote this up in more detail in the full blog post — Quantum Computing in 2026: From Labs to Real Applications — with the deeper context, data, and code. Give it a read if you're curious.
